Museum of Natural History – Slovak National Museum
The Natural Science Museum, focuses on the research, documentation and presentation of the natural environment, in particular within Slovakia. Its collections – containing approximately 3.8 million objects – make it one of the most important natural science museums in Europe. The Natural Science Museum is located by the Danube River, a few minutes’ walk from the old town.
The Slovak National Museum, based in the capital of Slovakia since 1961, has collected, documented, done scientific research, educated visitors and in recent years also presented its exhibits through a network of twelve specialized museums, where experts from a number of scientific disciplines work. The fundamental mission of the Slovak National Museum is to utilize its studies and research to systematically gather, preserve, technically process and evaluate through scientific methods the collected items which particularly document the region of Slovakia, the Slovak nation and ethnic groups living within the country.
