Church of St. George in Sv. Jur

The church is one of the most important cultural and historical landmarks in Svätý Jur. The Gothic Roman Catholic parish Church of St. George was originally constructed as an early-Gothic church from the 13th century, which was later added on to and enlarged. After Turkish raids in 1663 which resulted in the burning of the church tower, a separate wooden bell tower was erected. The interior of the church is dominated by an early-Renaissance stone altar, unique to Slovakia, in the middle of which stands a statue of St. George.
