Come Fall in Love with Bratislava
Have a stroll down Bratislava’s narrow streets, peek into cosy cafés or simply laze about on the Danube’s banks. You will enjoy Bratislava as a couple twice as much
Couples in love have always been attracted by the magical Old Town with its many picturesque streets. In addition, soft musical sounds spreading from the Main Square echo through them during the summer.
The Main Square is a scene of many outdoor concerts. The fountains at Hviezdoslav Square and the terraces by Michael’s Gate also contribute to the overall summer atmosphere of the town. The historical centre is very cosy and the most beautiful places are easily accessible on foot. All you have to do is choose the right path.
The most dominant feature of the town is undoubtedly Bratislava Castle. You can reach it by walking along Zámocká Street. On the way up, you can stop in delightful cafés, where you can relax with a cup of good coffee and Bratislava sweet rolls. The castle itself offers spectacular views of the city with multilevel terraces. While you’re there, don’t miss a garden that is planted in a romantic baroque style.
You can walk near Saint Martin’s Cathedral on your way back. By the way, Kapitulská Street next to the Cathedral looks the prettiest when the sun sets. The soft light of old street lamps creates just the right Old-Town-atmosphere.
In case you prefer greeneries, visit Bratislava’s gardens. The most popular ones are the Medická Garden and the Presidential Garden on the premises of Grassalkovich Palace. A popular place for summer walks and picnics is Janko Kráľ Park, one of the oldest public parks in Europe. Lovers should also visit Slavín, which many locals describe as a romantic place with an unforgettable panorama of the city, especially at sunrise.
Bratislava pulsates with life even after dark. In summer, you will certainly be attracted by the outdoor terraces of restaurants, where you can taste local specialities or have a glass of fine wine from the Little Carpathian vineyards. The best place for tasting exclusive Slovak wines is the National Wine Salon, located in the basement of the Museum of Viticulture in the Apponyi Palace of Bratislava’s Old Town Hall.
Romantic spirits should not miss a stroll along the Danube embankment and enjoy the view of the lit-up dominant features of the town. The best view of Bratislava at night is offered by the UFO restaurant on the SNP Bridge and the rotating restaurant in the television tower “Kamzík”.
A view of the town from a completely different perspective can be had via an evening ride on a speedboat, which will also give you an adrenaline rush. You will thus experience Bratislava in an unusual way – with champagne in hand and wind in your hair.
Hotels and guest houses in Old Town can induce the right atmosphere for love-birds who decide to spend a few romantic days here. You will find small wellness centres in many of them, offering pleasant relaxation after a day full of sightseeing. Treat yourselves to a relaxing massage, a bubble bath or an aromatic sauna for two.
You will definitely enjoy your stay in Bratislava more with the Bratislava City Card, which offers a number of interesting discounts and gives you the opportunity to experience the best of what Bratislava currently offers.
