The Bratislava City Museum has 11 thematic museums, mostly in the historical center. Exceptions are Devin Castle and the Ancient Gerulata Museum in Rusovce. The first thematically installed exhibitions may have originated in the 20s – 30s on the premises of the Old Town Hall, in Apponyi House and the birthplace of Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
A further expansion of the museum exhibitions took place in the 60s and 70s. This was the period when most of the hitherto functioning museums were established. The Arthur Fleischmann Museum originated at the beginning of the 21st century. Within the overall reconstruction of Apponyi Palace in 2005 – 2007, the Museum of Historical Interiors was opened alongside the reinstalled Museum of Viticulture. In 2011, the Old City Hall became available after a total renovation, where the exhibition of the Museum of City History is located.
In 2023, after more than two years of general renovation, the Michael’s Tower with a new exhibition and breathtaking viewpoint has been reopened for the public.
