Christian motifs from the art collections of the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum
The exhibition presents a selection of works of art from the rich collection of fine art of the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum. The main theme is the Christian motifs that inspired the creators over the centuries.
The exhibits are works created for the sacred space, but also for aristocratic dwellings and church residences at the request of art lovers, galleries or collectors’ cabinets.
Sculptures, table paintings, icons and oil paintings in the time span from the 14th century to the beginning of the 20th century will “retell” many biblical stories of the Old and New Testaments, stories from the lives of saints and will also introduce the diversity of iconographic portrayals of the Virgin Mary.
You can visit the exhibition of curator Hana Kližanová at Bratislava Castle until the end of 2024.
