The Christmas Petržalka

After a two-year break, popular Christmas markets will return to Petržalka, the atmosphere of which will be completed by an almost 10-meter Christmas tree.

Advent in Petržalka promises entertainment for children and adults. The almost one month long programme of Christmas Petržalka will bring good food, music and philanthropic activities to help people in need. Admission to all major and accompanying events is free.

Petržalka is famous for floodplain forests, so tall coniferales are not a typical flora of this part of Bratislava. On the contrary, coniferous trees are characteristic of nearby Záhorie region, so the Square of the Republic beautifies the 10-meter-tall spruce from Stupava. It will be lit up on November 27.

Traditional Christmas market will be an integral part of the programme. It can be found again at the Square of the Republic from November 26 to December 22. The market will be open daily: from Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., on weekends from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Novelties of the market that many like for its more intimate and friendly atmosphere will include new lighting decorations and attractions, such as the Christmas photo wall. A total of 13 stands will offer rich snacks and various Christmas goods.

In addition to the traditional symbol of the most beautiful holidays of the year, the local self-government promises to install new decorations to attract more people to the markets and make the holiday atmosphere even more pleasant.

A completely new street lighting, which is installed annually on the main traffic routes of Petržalka, will also be a novelty. In addition to being cheaper than in previous years, LED lamps will also make it more economical.

The cultural programme of the markets will start on Sunday, November 27 at 6 p.m. with the performance of the winner of the Slovak version of Superstar competition from 2005 Katarína Koščová and the vocal choir Vocalatté. During the following days, Monika Ližbetin with the group, an unusual group Andrea Bučko Trio, acapella For You or Robo Opatovský will play and sing in the heart of Petržalka. There will also be a fire or light show and a children’s programme. Every Wednesday, the stage will belong to domestic children’s and senior folklore ensembles as well as to pupils of kindergartens, primary schools and art schools.

Pre-Christmas time cannot do without St Nicholas. Together with his helpers – angel and devil – he will visit Petržalka on the second Advent Sunday of December 4th. The other two siblings of St Nicholas will meanwhile appear in the branches of the library and also in the Petržalka Active Seniors Clubhouse.

During the four weeks of Advent, the city district and its organizations will also organize a number of accompanying charity events aimed at helping the most vulnerable groups of the population, including families in need, homeless people or lonely seniors.
