Otomo Yoshihide Special Big Band

Japanese composer and musician – guitarist, turntablist and electronics player – Otomo Yoshihide is one of the key figures of world (not only) experimental music. Already in the 90s he made a name for himself as the leader of the band Ground Zero and since then he has been composing solo or with collaborations in a variety of styles, from free improvisation, noise and jazz to classical.

Although the scope of his work is indeed wide, his common trait is that he has always approached music in a straightforward manner, based on a clear plan, without any ambiguity or obfuscation.

Following Yoshihide’s solo project at A4 in 2019, this time the unique seventeen-piece Otomo Yoshihide Special Big Band will perform in Bratislava – a jazz-electroacoustic improvisational project that is the culmination of the musician’s work to date, as well as the current concert season.

With its jazz approach, the ensemble is also the successor to the Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet (1999-2004) and its expanded version, the Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Orchestra. Unbridled energy and a trans-genre experience.

The concert takes place in the A4 contemporary culture space, located in the historic YMCA building.

Admission is €27/€22 in advance, €32/€27 at the door.
