The Great Evangelic (Protestant) Church in Bratislava, originally known as German Evangelic Church, was build by an architect Matej Walch between 1774 – 1776 in a style of Baroque classicism. The style began at the start of the 17th century in Rome, then spread rapidly to the rest of Europe.
The church was built according to the imperial permission with the conditions that it should not have a tower and it should not be an exhibitional building. On 30 November 1776, the first Divine Service was performed by the evanjelic (protestant) minister Michal Klein and the church was consecrated the following day.
