Kořínek Elgar Čajkovskij

Members of the SKO ensure the systematic introduction of works by Slovak authors. The fresh Divertimento by Miloslav Kořínek certainly stands up to the high criteria of compositional mastery. Sir Edward Elgar wrote the Introduction and Allegro for the newly founded London Symphony Orchestra to allow the players to showcase their playing qualities. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky dedicated his evocative string sextet Souvenir de Florence to the venerable St Petersburg Chamber Music Society in gratitude for their acceptance of him as a member. One of the central themes was sketched by Tchaikovsky in Florence – hence his description of the whole work as a memoir of an inspiring trip to Italy.
