Jarmila S. Džuppová and Jarmila Mitríková – Two Jarks
Jarmila Sabová Džuppová and Jarmila Mitríková will present for the first time their joint exhibition at the DOT.Contemporary Gallery in the Jurkovič’s heating plant. Generationally related, the artists work in different media (Džuppová in painting, Mitríková currently mainly in ceramics). Each has her own recognizable and mutually unmistakable handwriting. However, they are united by a focus on personal experience, which they process through various more or less universal symbols.
Through their work, both artists gradually construct a poetic account of a private universe. Their inner landscapes of mythical time are inhabited by characters from legends, fairy tales, real and completely new creatures. And at the same time, they are a true and very concrete account of the female experience in different life situations.
The pun in the title in Slovak language refers not only to the authors’ names, but also to the motif of a ditch – a rescue ditch by the roadside, or the flow of water in a stream. Surrendering to the flow of life and at the same time not losing our footing is something we all learn.
