From the estate of Edita Gruberová
Part of Edita Gruberová’s estate has been acquired by leading Slovak cultural institutions
Opera diva Edita Gruberová has won the hearts of opera lovers around the world with her talent and operatic art. She was one of the world’s top opera performers and represented Slovak musical and dramatic art at the highest level. In September 2022, her estate became the subject of an auction of the Dorotheum auction house.
Selected objects that were connected with the life and career of Edita Gruberová were also included in the collections of the Slovak National Museum and Theatre Institute. From the estate they managed to auction items of cultural value: concert robes, theatrical costume, clothing accessories, jewelry, but also portrait photography, Art Nouveau music stand and awards for artistic contribution and representation of Slovakia and Austria abroad – a set of 8 medals and plaques, state decorations of the Order of the White Double Cross, 2nd Class and the Medal of the President of the Slovak Republic.
Edita Gruberová represents a leading figure of the world opera scene. Her estate is valuable and also interesting from the point of view of documentation of Slovaks living abroad. At the exhibition at the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum, you can see a selection of items that accompanied her life until May 1 on the second floor of Bratislava Castle.
