ALFA MIST

Alpha Mist is an extraordinary figure in contemporary London jazz. The pianist and composer from East London started out as a hip-hop and grime producer. Looking for inspiration, he stumbled across recordings by Miles Davis and Hans Zimmer and changed direction: he began studying piano, immersing himself in jazz. His unique sound blends cinematically fluffy jazz with alternative hip-hop, soul, and atmospheric film music.

STEVE COLEMAN & FIVE ELEMENTS

Steve Coleman has been a mainstay in the ever-changing jazz world since the 1980s. First as a sideman for stars such as Dave Holland, Cassandra Wilson, and Errol Parker, and later as the frontman of his own band. As a leader, he has released over thirty albums. Coleman’s musical poetics tended toward the sparse and abstract, but recent live recordings (Live at the Village Vanguard 1 and 2) and concerts with the current Five Elements lineup signal a strong, energetic return to groove and funk.

BILL FRISELL FOUR

Frisell has had a lot of practice in how to squeeze a top-notch concept into a modest package. He has long been hailed as one of the most distinctive and original improvising guitarists of our time, but he has also earned a reputation for bringing out the thematic connections in his music…” wrote the New York Times about him. Frisell is one of the most sought-after session guitarists not only on the jazz scene, his solo work includes strong elements of folk, rock ‘n’ roll, Americana, and improvisational jazz.
