Bratislava Design Week 2024
The largest international festival of contemporary design in Slovakia will take place this year from 16 to 20 October. The main headquarters of its 15th edition will be in OD PRIOR on Kamenné Square, in the permanent exhibition of the Baroque collection in the Mirbach Palace of the Bratislava City Gallery and other selected locations in the Old Town.
The theme of the festival is “Relationships”, which is pursued in a broader sense and through diverse design projects. Relationships are sometimes obvious and sometimes hidden. They can define us, move us forward and destroy us. They open doors and educate, they change us.
The main headquarters of the festival will be located in the OD Prior (socialistic style former department store) and on the Kamenné Square in front of the OD Prior. On the second floor you will find a selection of personalities and works of contemporary European design (IT, FR, CH, CZ, AT, UA, PL, HU, NL) as well as works created directly for BADW under the curatorial concept of Damian Cehlárik. In addition, a large exhibition of works by designers, designers, design schools, which were selected through an open call.
In the second headquarters, in the premises of the Bratislava City Gallery in Mirbach Palace, the exhibition Expedition D will be presented, which will present works and collaborations in Slovak design in a variety of material and conceptual designs – Sylvia Jokelová and Jana Hojstričová, Vnem, Sebastian Komáček, Erika Remencova and IOKO, Sylvia Sukopová, Erik Vrábel, Lucia Židek Gamanová, Crafting Plastic! and others.
In the Masters of Slovak Design edition, BADW will present the work of the bard of Slovak design Karol Weisslechner from the late 1980s and 1990s.
