Železná studnička is part of the Bratislava Forest Park, which is managed by the municipal forests organisation. It is located on the southern edge of the Malé Karpaty protected area. It is crossed by the Vydrica creek, which in the middle part of the stream supplies water to four ponds. Near the main stream there are springs, wells and waterlogged areas.
The special feature of Železná studenka is the harmony of technical buildings (mills, embankments, ponds, forestry and fishery facilities) with buildings, meadows and woods popular with Bratislava residents of all generations.
Boating in this location has a long tradition. The four ponds were built here in 1846 to power nine water mills on the Vydrica Creek (Otter Creek). Water mills are mentioned here as early as 1455, but by the end of the 19th century they had disappeared and continued to serve as restaurants.
