Ivan Dudáš – Under the Skin
The solo exhibition of Ivan Dudáš presents his latest works, as well as a selection of older works. The exhibition is part of the 15th OFF Bratislava Festival with the subtitle/theme Persona Incognita, which encourages us to immerse ourselves and reflect on the complexity of hidden characters, veiled identities and (our) masks.
Ivan Dudáš (1980) is an intermedia artist who has long worked with found film, image and sound (found footage), exploring their deconstruction, interactive overlaps and the possibility of audience participation. Many of his projects, created in collaboration with his brother Juraj under the Dudas Brothers banner, fall under the umbrella of political and social activism.
The Under the Skin project presented at Flatgallery was conceived as an experiment that explores the possibilities of painting, tattooing and media shots/photographs. Thematically, it deals with ecological, social, psychological and political issues, which are translated into so-called tattoo images.
Ivan Dudáš draws on current events of recent years such as the climate crisis, Covid/post Covid, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, other military conflicts, the migration crisis and refugees. It responds to the global crisis as well as local specificities and issues that, whether we want them or not, get under our skin.

Flatgallery was founded by art historian and curator Andrej Jaroš together with director and artist Albert Vlk. The gallery first opened its doors to visitors at Baštová 1 in the Old Town in December 2012.
The name of the gallery reflects the uniqueness of the concept in Slovakia – exhibition and educational spaces are located directly in the owners’ apartment. The aim of the gallery is to create a space for young artists, students and university graduates. During its 12 years of operation, the gallery has held more than 75 exhibitions of young and established artists from Slovakia and abroad (Czech Republic, United States, Italy, the Netherlands, etc.). The gallery is constantly expanding its portfolio of international artists, guest curators and residencies.
Baštová Street is considered the narrowest street in Bratislava, it was built along the city walls. Its first name dates back to 1440, and until the time of the Turkish invasions it was part of the Jewish quarter. On the street the city executioner had a house of residence.
Open: Monday – Sunday: 16.00 – 20.00
