History of the women’s emancipation movement in Ukraine

The world probably knows Ukrainian feminists mainly thanks to the Femen movement. Since February 2022, a significant representation of Ukrainian women in the country’s defence can also be seen. But what was the history of the Ukrainian women’s emancipation movement and its beginnings? What lies behind names like Natalia Kobrynska, Olha Kobylanskaya or Lesia Ukrainka? Like feminists in Slovakia, these women were active in literary circles. Perhaps during the conversation between translator Valérie Juríčková and writer Anna Siedykh, parallels between Ukraine and Slovakia will be discovered that have not been known much until now.
