Folklór na predaj – O zneužívaní tradície v odeve

Hana Gregorová, at the assembly of the Živena association, commented on the desire of Slovak women for education: „Crocheting and embroidery fill their lives.“ She herself had a relationship to embroidery, but she supported women in education.

The importance of embroidery began to change from the 19th century onwards. There was a growing demand for their commercial use, and societies were formed. They were meant to spread the idea of nation, thus connecting with national consciousness. In a critical analysis of the misuse of embroidery and folklore, the folklorist Zuzana Tajek Piešová (Folklore Without Fake) and Silvia Ciulis, a clothing designer specializing in folk culture, will discuss the misuse of embroidery and folklore. They will also discuss whether there is a purely „Slovak“ embroidery on 8 April at 17:30.
