A staple of Christmas in Bratislava

The renowned Urban Market in Bratislava is moving to a historic venue this winter – the bank building in the heart of the city. Adorned by ornate details, boasting a lavish entrance and donning artisan craftsmanship, the venue is one of the destination’s most unique. Urban Market is a one-off cultural event that marries a lively market featuring contemporary artistic and creative creations with a varied accompanying programme, creative activities and creative people from different segments of the art sphere.

The Urban Market in Bratislava edges out its regional competition because of its unique concept: the venue showcases the creativity of locals whose talent and work are hidden behind every product and design. Thus, visitors attending the Urban Market can discover and support unique and original artisans.

Bratislava’s version of Wall Street

The venue of this year’s event has a rich history. First, it was meant to be designed by the Czech architect Jiří Kroha, who wanted to design the building in a cubist style in the nineteen twenties. Still, Alexander Skutecký’s idea of creating a timeless building in neoclassical style prevailed. The building thus flaunts antique elements, including columns and decorations. The bank was completed in 1923. Attendees of the Urban Market can even reserve tickets for an insightful tour of the interior of the bank building, unique spaces that have been closed to the public for a century.
