The 30th Conference of the European Vegetation Survey will be held on May 9 – 13, 2022, in Bratislava at the Hotel Saffron. Both professional researchers and young scientists attending the event will discuss the future of Europe’s biodiversity strategy to protect nature.

The conference will bring together international and national researchers from scientific and educational institutions, nature conservationists, and landscape managers to explore, share and discuss new knowledge, research topics, results and opportunities. Moreover, they will delve into the strengths related to the European biodiversity strategy to protect nature and reverse the degradation of ecosystems.

Bratislava Tourist Board is the proud partner of the conference providing the attendees of the event with information materials, city guides and a walking tour of the historical city centre of Bratislava.

Plant communities in a changing environment

The event will cover several pressing issues our environment faces, including plant invasions in the context of climate change, forest vegetation and forestry and spatio-temporal vegetation changes. Moreover, the speakers will talk about various methods in vegetation classification, plant diversity and its drivers and, lastly, remote sensing for vegetation and habitat monitoring.

Through the course of the event, the attendees will also have an opportunity to attend field excursions. They will have the chance to discover riparian plant communities along the Danube River, steppes and thermophilous forests of the south-western part of the Little Carpathians, dry calcareous grasslands of the Tematínske vrchy or the sand kingdom of the Záhorie lowland.

All registered attendees will have free entry to the Botanical garden of Comenius University in Bratislava. The Botanical Garden was founded in 1942 and covers an area of 5.5 hectares close to the Danube River. The venue features an on-site greenhouse that features several tropical and sub-tropical plants.
