During a live stream, Bratislava brought the atmosphere of Christmas to the screens of viewers. The highlight of the stream was the lighting of the Christmas tree on the city’s Main Square. Even though Christmas markets were cancelled throughout Slovakia, Bratislava decided to organise an unforgettable online event.

The Slovak capital lit up its Christmas tree on November 26, when the Bratislava Christmas event officially kicked off during a Facebook live stream. The tree is covered in Christmas decorations created by folk artists from different Slovak regions.

Christmas trees lit up in Bratislava

The 15-metre-high fir from the Dúbravka borough was erected on Bratislava’s Main Square at the start of November. Moreover, a Christmas Forest has popped up in front of the Primate’s Palace this year again, and the Christmas tree on Hviezdoslav Square is enchanting guests with its light show. The city centre is already in full Christmas spirit, whilst the Old Bridge over the Danube River is expected to be embellished soon.

The Mayor of Bratislava, Matúš Vallo, said: “I still wish that, despite the difficult pandemic times, we were able to spread good energy and take an interest in each other. I feel sorry that we cannot drink mulled wine together at the Christmas market, but I also have great hope that we can handle it all.”

Bratislava Christmas Tram and Sleigh Bus

Two Christmas-decorated public transport vehicles – a Christmas tram and a Sleigh Bus – are already adding to the festive atmosphere in Bratislava. The tram, decorated with Christmas lights and children’s drawings, runs daily in December, while the Christmas runs on the weekends till the end of the winter season.
