The majestic past will come to life again in the former royal town. Follow in the footsteps of kings and let yourselves be immersed in the rich royal past during the Bratislava Coronation Days.

Once again, you will be able to enjoy the coronation atmosphere during the free guided tours. Anyone who likes exploring will appreciate a historic tour of one of the most beautiful towns in Slovakia.

On this occassion, the Bratislava Tourist Board organises a series of thematic sightseeing tours given in Slovak as well as English, German, Hungarian and Ukrainian. These tours let you learn interesting things about the capital’s history and reveal the best that Bratislava has to offer. The route will tour the most important sites associated with the ceremony of coronation of Hungarian rulers and their spouses. I. József rövid, de sikeres uralkodása

A 17. század végén, a török felett aratott újabb győzelmek hatására a tartományi országgyűlés törvénybe iktatta, hogy a magyar korona örökös joga mindig az elsőszülött Habsburgot illeti meg. I. Leopold volt az első, aki élt ezzel a joggal, és megkoronáztatta fiát, I. Józsefet. Az egyház jóváhagyásával I. Józsefet nagykorúnak nyilvánították, és 9 éves korában megkoronázhatták. Azonban csak apja, I. Leopold 1705-ben bekövetkezett halála után kezdett el uralkodni. I. József képes uralkodó volt, aki radikális intézkedések mellett kötelezte el magát. Megerősítette a központilag irányított állami bürokrácia szerepét. Amellett, hogy a spanyol örökösödési háború végső rendezésére törekedett, váratlanul, alig 33 éves korában meghalt.

In the footsteps of crowned Hungarian kings

We will start our walking tour in front of the Primatial palace, the former residence of archbishops of Estergom who crowned Hungarian rulers. We will walk in the footsteps of the Hungarian kings and queens and follow the coronation route. We will learn what was the reason why Bratislava became the coronation city and how many coronatios were organized in our city. We will see all of the most important places including St. Martin ´s Cathedral, the former coronation church or Franciscan church. We will finish our tour in front of the Castle of Bratislava, the former residence of Hungarian kings and queens.

Guided tour of the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum

Join us and explore the Bratislava Castle – the most important and visited attraction of the Slovak capital. You will learn more about its rich history, remarkable construction development as well as significant rulers and personalities associated with the castle. We will step inside its impressive interiors with expositions of the Museum of History. Finally, we will enjoy a walk round the charming Baroque Garden and surrounding terraces offering magnificent views of the city.

Уряд Йосифа І Габсбурга

Під час правління Йосипа I Габсбурга (1705-1711) Братислава, тоді відома як Прешпорок, була важливим політичним і культурним центром Угорського королівства. Будучи столицею, тут відбувалися коронації угорських королів і був резиденцією угорського сейму. Йосип I вів військовий конфлікт за іспанську спадщину, що також вплинуло на життя місцевих жителів. Економіка міста базувалася на торгівлі та ремеслах, важливою складовою було також виноградарство. У цей період Братислава зберігала своє стратегічне значення і відігравала важливу роль в управлінні країни Габсбургами.

Joseph I. – ein Komet am habsburgischen Himmel

Leopold I. lies seinen Sohn Joseph I. bereits im frühen Alter von 9 Jahren zum König von Ungarn krönen. Stilisiert zum Herkules der Waffen, führte er Kriege oder komponierte Musik als Herkules der Musen. Er setzte die kompositorische Tradition seines Vaters Leopold I. und seines Großvaters Ferdinand III. fort, für die Musik eine Herzensangelegenheit war. Er liebte Musik und Tanz, doch dienten sie für ihn eher der Repräsentation. Joseph I. war auf dem besten Weg, Habsburger Sonnenkaiser zu werden, doch die Pocken beendeten sein Leben vorzeitig nach weniger als 6 Jahren Regentschaft.
