The glorious royal past will be revived in Bratislava and the coronation atmosphere will take over the city.
Three days of festivities will bring an attractive programme, reminding how it looked in Bratislava during the coronations. Choose from themed guided city tours, see the coronation procession and return back to the knights’ times.

👑Hungarian Royal Crown Returns to Bratislava
You can see a faithful replica of the Hungarian royal crown, created by the family of jewelers of Mikuš Diamonds, in the premises of the charming Old Townhall. The Hungarian royal crown is one of the oldest preserved jewels in Europe. Her presence guaranteed stability in Hungary, but her fate was an adventurous journey around the world. Thanks to the Mikuš Diamonds family workshop and the Bratisalva City Museum, you too will have the opportunity to see its replica. The intention was to make this crown jewel, which carries many stories, available to the public at least for a while.

⛪St. Martin’s Cathedral for the Public
Come and see the exceptional architecture and decoration of the most significant and largest church in Bratislava. St. Martin’s Cathedral, whose history dates back to the 11th century, was the coronation church of Hungarian monarchs from 1563 to 1830. The presbytery, where the Hungarian kings and royal wives were crowned, will be exceptionally accessible to visitors (via the “small” entrance to the cathedral, which is not normally used). The visitors will also have the opportunity to admire the wall-mounted list of crowned monarchs. Due to the sanctity of the place, it is necessary to enter it appropriately dressed (with covered shoulders). Visitors will also be able to visit the crypts in the underground of the cathedral.

🍷Coronation-themed wine tasting
Experience the rarely accessible historical cellar from the 17th century beneath the Jeszenák Palace (now Hotel Palace apartments). In honor of the 300th anniversary of Maria Theresa’s birth, a limited quantity of special rosehip wine is produced each year. Moreover, the rosehips were harvested around Kopčany and Holíč Castle, which served as her summer residence. During the coronation days, you can taste the unique wine made from frozen rosehips (for a fee) and enjoy three Slovak grape wines for free.

👑👑👑Grand Coronation Procession
Join the coronation procession! Starting from Bratislava Castle, you will accompany a procession of approximately 200 members dressed in exquisite historical costumes through the streets of Bratislava.
You will be able to accompany the magnificent coronation procession through the streets of Bratislava from the Bratislava Castle. In the ceremonial coronation procession, however, you will also have the opportunity to glimpse the predecessors of the crowned Jozef I – symbolically, in the form of royal portraits, carried by the nobility and warriors representing the periods of individual monarchs.
In addition to the king and nobility, the procession led by flag bearers and drummers will also include the clergy, bearers of the royal insignia, falconers and numerous swordsmen and dancers.

🫅Commemoration of the coronation of Joseph I.
This year we commemorate the coronation of the minor Prince Jozef I from 1687. In the ceremonial coronation procession, however, you will also have the opportunity to glimpse his predecessors – symbolically, in the form of royal portraits carried by the nobility and warriors representing the periods of individual monarchs. After the procession from the Bratislava Castle, you can look forward to rich program of dancing, fencing, falconry.

👸Possonia: Bratislava in Florence
Film screening
During the Bratislava Coronation Days, the story of the coronation will also appear on the movie screen. In the heart of Florence, Italy, you can find the painting of the city of Possonia. This name hides one of the oldest depictions of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. How did the painting end up on the walls of the first courtyard of the Palazzo Vecchio, today’s Florence Town Hall, once the Medici family’s palace? Dozens of stories unfold in the context of the painting, including the act of the coronation of Maximilian I. We get to know not only the circumstances of its creation, its restoration, but also the appearance of Bratislava, the former place of coronation of Hungarian kings.
